Good Evening, as many of you may have heard we are watching another weather system that will be very similar to a weather system that just passed through. This weather system will being some snow, heavy rain, gusty winds, and even very cold temperatures.
Lets start with the weather system - A strong low pressure system will track through the Great Lakes Friday and into Saturday. This system could bring heavy snow to parts of the Great Lakes, and potentially blizzard conditions. For us in Ohio, we will be on the warm side again, with snow toward the end of the weather system.
Now some locations have a chance to see some accumulation of snow, which will be mainly into northern Ohio, before precipitation makes the transition over to rain. Snow accumulations look to be in the 2-4 inch range northwest of a line from Fort Wayne to Defiance to Toledo. Amounts of 1-2 inches will be possible near the Turnpike.
As the weather system advances, bringing colder air with it, we will see precipitation return in the form of snow Saturday and into Saturday Afternoon, with light accumulations possible. This will be addressed in later updates.
Since we will be on the warm end of this weather system, we will see mainly rain, which could be heavy at times in some areas, especially in close proximity of the low pressure system. Rainfall amounts will be around 1" for most locations, with higher totals into western Ohio.
In fact, there is a chance for some isolated flooding concerns especially from Columbus to to Marion and southwest. Rain could be heavy at times and could result in some localized flooding issues across the area.
Gusty winds are going to be our next concern with this weather system. As this weather system shifts northeast, we will see some increased winds as a result of something known as a pressure gradient. Widespread winds of 40 to 50 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph will be possible.
With these gusty winds occurring when we get our second round of precipitation Saturday Morning, which will be in the form of snow, this could result in some blowing snow, which will result in reduction in visibility and could result in periods of hazardous driving conditions. This has prompted the NOAA Weather Prediction Center to put out a minor to moderate winter storm severity risk for parts of northwest Ohio, where it is more likely for this to occur.
Of course, it wouldn't be winter without cold temperatures and wind chills. We are looking at some bitter cold wind chills to move into the area, but likely not until the start of next week. We could see wind chills as low as -5 to -15 in some locations. Still a bit aways but we are watching this.
As always, stay tuned for the latest weather updates.
